What I Love/Hate - A Confession

So they say “Confession is good for the soul”... well, let’s see if this is true...

Here is a confessional from a mother of 11... (soon to be 13).

I LOVE the smell of clean children (what mother doesn’t).

(EXHIBIT A - These are clean children who smell great!)

(EXHIBIT B - These, children...well not so sweet smelling).

I do not like the smell of children that stink!

Random picture of our great home school week outside because it has finally been “open window - ice tea warm” kind of weather!
This picture - just because... he’s cute.

I, like any mother, love the smell of clean children with their lotioned little bodies in clean jammies!   But my confession is that I don’t seem to make/find time to bathe my children more than 2 or 3 times a week (if it’s a good week).  Some weeks they may only get a bath ONCE - GASP!!!  I know... not so good.  So, I hope that this confession is good for me and you, because, I would rather let them play with water, mud, sand, bugs, butterflies and flowers, than to keep them perfectly clean and in a little sterile cage.
So here’s to children that smell like CHILDREN!

  1. Oh Shonni, my kids get bathed about once a week in the winter time, too! I, too, LOVE the smell of bathed lotioned snuggly babies in their clean pajamas. Sadly, my kids also do not stay that way very long at all either! But I, too, also want them to be playing, exploring, adventuring, cooking, digging, and playing :-). Beautiful children, Shonni :-).

  2. you are precious! with all the ticks we have around here - they must bath daily to help us find them and get them off. otherwise it would be 3 times to 4 times at best!

    love you!

  3. Thank you!! I have only one who needs help in the bathing dept now and she does NOT get a bath every day! A swipe on the face, knees and feet is good until they start stinkin!! umm, while I was typing this the aforementioned child decided to "lipstick" her mouth and teeth with a green marker... alrighty then!

  5. So glad I'm not the only one that suddenly realizes on Saturday night sometimes that the children haven't had a bath since Monday or Tuesday...
Of course, I only have three, what's my excuse?

  6. Baths, schmaths. My kids only get bathed once a week in the winter. When I was a kid, I only got a bath once a week. I turned out okay. :) I love it when they have freshly washed hair and smell like soap but the effort to get them to that point requires more energy than I possess. :)

  7. Thank you for this confession! I try to give the girls a bath every other day but sometimes 2 days have flown by before I know it. Glad to know I am not the only one and that it is ok!
