What Do You Think?

I have always loved the pretty colored play silks that I have seen in children's toy magazines, however, they are VERY expensive, so I have never bought any. Recently, I found this silk dying project at another blog and decided to give it a try.
Kool-aid ready...silks in hot water...

and ready to dye.

Here are the children with their hand dyed playsilks.

They LOVE them!

The two below I dyed in professional dye...such beautiful and vibrant colors. I'm going to try to dye a silk today with a variation of these two colors...we'll see what happens.
So, here is my question to you think I would be able to sell some of these to raise funds to bring Keshawn home?
What do you think?

  1. Kool-aid! Really? Neat!

I think you would be able to sell them! It would make a great fundraiser.

And i'm glad to see i'm not the only one who lets her kids sit on the counter! =)

  2. I love the fabric...and would wear them as scarves. I think they would be very sellable!

  3. Very cute!

    Questions for you:

Where do you buy the plain silks?
What all do the kids use them for?

I, too, saw the instructions on the other blog, but really had no idea what the children DO with them.

  4. First of all, your white stove is WAY too clean!! Looks like a fun project, and I can see my kids running around the backyard now in their new capes. Thanks for sharing!

  5. I have been meaning to make these at my house, but I would be willing to buy them for a great cause!

I wish there was a great networker out there who would do a site where all of adopting parents who are raising funds in various ways to go to support each other. If we bought our Christmas gifts off of this site it would be an awesome 2 for 1...who needs to support Walmart when there are so many children who need to come home!

  6. You do the coolest things with your crew!! How fun!

Yes - I would buy them for the girls to play with! They are beautiful and so soft and smooth!

BTW- I noticed the clean stove too! Very impressive!! ;-)

  7. Cool! I'm glad that you got around to doing this project - fun wasn't it???? Our silks are used daily for all sorts of things! Did you get yours from Dharma Trading?

  8. Wow! I'm impressed! I think it's a great idea to sell some. I wish I could afford to buy them from you!

  9. OH YES--they are stunning! I absolutely do think you could sell them. What a great fundraiser idea.

    Love you, dear friend.

  10. Shonni - my kids LOVE these and you are right they are very expensive to buy! Your group did a great job!

I would buy them from you - tri colors are the biggest hit here - then solid red and blue. Girls like solid pink. Or a soft tie dye effect of pink.

They are great for everything - blankets for babies, hats, pretending they are old bible characters, Kings, Queens, Peasants, you name it and they can find a creative way to play with these.

    Love and hugs,
